The City of Slater has committed to the donation of three building lots for HFHSC. The long range plan is to build three houses for selected Slater families over the next five (5) years. A major contribution by the City; a major task for Habitat to "Build on Faith". |

Family Selection Committee selected 12 families from 5 applications on May 29. Ground breaking was held on Sunday, July 15. Both families and a number of board members and community members were in attendance. |

Habitat for Humanity of Saline County, Mo. (HFHSC)
History:
HFHSC was chartered in 1997. The first house was built in 1998. Currently, there are nine (9) Habitat home; occupied by eleven (11) adults & twenty-three (23) children. 34 people removed from poverty housing conditions.
Nearly 10% of the housing stock in Saline County is blighted.
HFHSC is the only entity in the county that solicits for the applicant-home owner, develops the property, builds the house & finances the 20 year interest free mortgage. Monthly mortgage payments are $300 a month or less including escrow. Total value remaining on all mortgages is $350,000.00
HFHSC houses are built with all new materials, equipment and appliances; built in accordance with local building codes.
The nine (9) Habitat homeowners collectively pay $4,900/yr. in property taxes and approximately $27,000/yr. for utilities. They are not a burden on the community; they contribute.
